During the Adelaide season Alison Kidd, The Australian Ballet’s resident Wigmaker, gave a fascinating insight into the 90+ wigs she hand made for The Sleeping Beauty. Alison is the full-time wigmaker of the company and must be one of the most patient people in the world. Some wigs, like the Queen’s, were handmade, while others were adapted from base wigs and had a handmade front added. Many of the wigs are made of Yak hair with materials also sourced from Germany and east Europe. The wigs take hours to make and are pinned on and glued around the edges to ensure they are very secure.
